Many people look at cooking as useless but a true business person looks at it as an edible gold mine. All foods can heal you when consumed but the money is in the "buffing" foods.
You will not make much money creating the everyday mundane foods, but at higher levels you can earn quite a nice income. There are some recipes that can buff pets. Of course this only applies to Hunter pets since they are the only ones that eat.
Cooking is an excellent way to earn cash in World of Warcraft. It is a secondary skill and has no effect on the trade skills you wish to learn. Do you want to make even more gold? Combine cooking and fishing they go hand in hand. Fishing has its own money makers as well.
